TPToA Podcast 371 – Time Bandits (2024)

For an afternoon Kids adventure show it's got a heck of a budget.
For a premium format, Apple TV "adult fantasy show", it feels an awful lot like a "mid '90s young-adult afternoon TV adventure show."

Time Bandits

We are turning back time to 1981 and at the same time it’s 2024 (in fact we’re jumping all around the timeline, and all over the magical map)!  In 1981 Time Bandits was a Terry Gilliam film nominally aimed at kids with a stacked cast and a deeply weird premise.
Time Bandits in 2024 is an Apple TV original series directed by Taika Waititi with a deeply weird cast and a stacked premise.

Is it actually any good? Let’s find out together shall we?

Synopsis

Young history buff Kevin (Kal-el Tuck) can scarcely believe it when five weirdos emerge from his closet one night. Former employees of the Supreme Being, they’ve purloined a map charting all of the holes in the fabric of time and are using it to steal treasures from different historical eras.

In this show we also talked about some other fun topics, which are well worth checking out.

We talk a bit about:

Batman: Caped Crusader – the new animated show on Amazon Prime

Star Trek: Prodigy – The surprisingly good second season of which is on Netflix right now.

Trap – the new film from M. Night Shyamalan

and the upcoming wave of D&D based Lego Minifigs coming soon!
