TPToA Podcast 347 – Argylle

Matthew Vaughn returns to the world of spies and international intrigue with Argylle, but this time it’s less about “all the Kings Men” and more “Yass, literary queen!”. Best selling author Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard) is dragged kicking and screaming into the dangerous parallel world drawn from her own books. But instead of her super-spy Argylle (Henry Cavill), it’s Schlubby-spy Aiden (Sam Rockwell). Oh and there’s a cat. In a bag. Best not let that one out…

Dion and Quinny are helicoptering over to the side while Peta and Jill get down to the big business of spying and iceskating.

Reclusive author Elly Conway writes best-selling espionage novels about a secret agent named Argylle who’s on a mission to unravel a global spy syndicate. However, when the plots of her books start to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, the line between fiction and reality begin to blur.

A fun mess that doesn't quite get it's audience.
It's a middle age man writing an action film for a female audience he doesn't quite understand. Too many beautiful colours, textures and flavours, mixed together and overcooked into something brown and a bit burnt. It's got some really fun elements but it stays too long and is a bloated mess.
